Daniela’s blog on student organizations at UMW
September 5th, 2008 by amarilloWhen looking for a campus organization in which to participate, the first things I considered were my interests, my talents, and my strengths. It is very important for me to join clubs that relate to things that I enjoy, or want to learn more about. While at Club Carnival I signed up for as much clubs as possible, my intent was really to not miss getting information on a club that I might really be interested in. In my search for a student organization, I also had to remind myself that quality is better than quantity: it is better to join two clubs and not jeopardize your performance in your classes, than to do four clubs at the expense of failing your classes. Student organizations are a great way to meet other people that in one way or another will likely share a similarity with you, but should not prevent you from doing well in your academics. One of the clubs that I joined was C.O.A.R.; a club in which you get to participate in many community service projects. I like to help people and the environment, and I was unsatisfied with the amount of community service I did in high school; this is why I consider this to be a great opportunity. Now that I am in college, I definitely want to make sure I do more community service and get to know people that enjoy doing that too!
